Profile
Waimanaaki is a beachfront camp and retreat centre located at Riversdale Beach in the Wairarapa, around 45 minutes from Masterton. Surrounded by sand dunes and coastal bush, it provides schools with a safe and peaceful setting for outdoor learning, recreation and community building.
The camp can host medium to large groups, with a range of bunk-style accommodation supported by leaders’ rooms. Facilities include a fully equipped kitchen, large dining hall and indoor meeting areas for lessons, workshops or evening programmes. Outdoor areas around the camp offer plenty of room for supervised games, challenges and team-building activities.
Its location is one of Waimanaaki’s biggest strengths. The beach provides opportunities for marine studies, environmental education and coastal exploration, while the quiet rural setting supports wellbeing and reflection. The natural surroundings also make it an excellent base for outdoor activities such as orienteering, bushcraft and group challenges.
Waimanaaki is owned and operated by Presbyterian Support Central and is run with a strong focus on hospitality, safety and inclusivity. Schools can expect affordable rates and facilities designed to support curriculum-linked programmes. The relaxed atmosphere makes it equally suitable for leadership training, personal development or community-focused camps.
For schools seeking a camp venue in the Wairarapa, Waimanaaki combines practical facilities with the unique experience of staying right on the coast. It offers students the chance to connect with nature, develop teamwork and resilience, and enjoy the benefits of learning in a supportive and inspiring environment.
