Profile
Blue Mountain Adventure Centre, established in 1990, provides schools with opportunities to experience outdoor education in the heart of the Central North Island. The centre is set in a natural environment and is used by schools, organisations, and community groups from across the country.
BMAC designs programmes for groups with any level of outdoor experience. Whether students are completely new to the outdoors or already confident in adventure settings, the activities are led in a professional and safe way. No previous experience is required, making it an accessible option for schools looking to introduce students to outdoor learning.
The range of activities on offer is wide and cost-effective. BMAC works with groups to create programmes that match their goals and budgets, ensuring every camp is tailored to the needs of the school. Programmes are open to ages eight to eighty, giving flexibility for both junior and senior students.
Accommodation at BMAC includes lodges such as Autui, which features a large catering kitchen, spacious dining and lounge area, outdoor space, and dormitory-style sleeping in both large and small rooms. Schools can choose catering arrangements where BMAC supplies the food and prepares the meal plans, while the group provides a cook. This setup gives schools the balance of structure and flexibility during their stay.
One of the centreâs key experiences is the five-day Join an Adventure camp. This programme is designed to build teamwork, leadership, and confidence, while challenging students through outdoor activities. It also encourages groups to take time away from everyday life and appreciate the natural surroundings.
With over three decades of history and a focus on safe, professional instruction, Blue Mountain Adventure Centre remains a trusted choice for schools seeking meaningful education outside the classroom.
