Profile
Kauaeranga Valley Christian Camp (KVCC) is a people-first camp set along the river and hills of the Kauaeranga Valley near Thames. It welcomes schools and offers a wide range of activities and facilities suited to curriculum-linked camps and outdoor learning.
KVCC operates two adjacent areas — Main Camp and the Summer Village — which can be used separately or combined for larger groups. Main Camp includes bunkrooms comfortably accommodating up to 100, renovated bathroom and shower blocks, a large dining room with stage, AV, and an upstairs lounge or chapel space. A full gymnasium (indoor basketball, volleyball and netball court) and a mezzanine that seats around 120 (games room with kitchenette) are available for scheduled use. Overflow tenting and marae-style sleeping can be arranged when needed.
The fully catered or self-catered Main Camp is complemented by the Summer Village, designed to immerse students in the outdoors. It features powered cabins for teachers, four bivouac shelters sleeping 10–14 per shelter, an outdoor kitchen and marquee setup, and hot outdoor showers. Both Main Camp and Summer Village share access to the gym and mezzanine, with bathrooms allocated to suit each area.
KVCC offers an extensive activity menu, most included in package pricing. Options include archery, air rifles, archery tag, axe throwing, BMX, boulder wall, Burma trail, flying fox, disc golf, low ropes and team initiatives, orienteering, go-karts, horizontal bungy, railway jiggers, raft building, kayaking, waterslides, tube float, campfire, 9-square, gym games and more. A unique highlight is Cross Games, a two-hour, staff-led collaboration and leadership challenge.
The site backs onto the Kauaeranga River, with a swimming hole ideal for kayaking and supervised water activities. Its combination of natural setting, extensive facilities and diverse activities makes KVCC an outstanding venue for school camps of all sizes.
