Profile
Blue Light Awhitu Youth Camp provides a unique opportunity for young people to take part in outdoor adventure and personal development in a supportive environment. Located on Auckland’s rugged Awhitu Peninsula, the camp is part of the national Blue Light programme, a not-for-profit partnership with New Zealand Police that focuses on creating positive experiences for youth.
The camp runs residential programmes designed to challenge and inspire young people. Activities include high ropes, abseiling, kayaking, tramping, camping and team-building challenges that promote resilience, communication and cooperation. With its coastal location and natural bush setting, the camp is well suited for outdoor education and environmental learning, helping youth to connect with nature while developing practical skills.
Awhitu Youth Camp is not just about physical activity — it is also about building confidence, discipline and a sense of responsibility. Many programmes focus on life skills such as problem-solving, decision-making and working effectively in teams. The experience encourages participants to step out of their comfort zones, gain self-belief and see what they are capable of achieving.
Supported by trained staff and volunteers, the camp provides a safe, structured environment where young people can grow personally and socially. Blue Light programmes are inclusive and designed to give all participants the chance to succeed, regardless of background. The partnership with New Zealand Police also fosters positive relationships between young people and their communities, creating a strong sense of trust and respect.
Whether attending as part of a school, community group or youth programme, Blue Light Awhitu Youth Camp offers a rewarding mix of adventure, learning and personal growth. It is an ideal choice for groups looking to combine outdoor challenges with valuable life lessons in a memorable setting.
