Profile
Karamu Trail Track offers schools a range of outdoor activities with a strong focus on horse trekking. Set in the Waikato, the track caters specifically for school groups, scout camps, youth groups, and classes, providing flexible options for groups of different sizes.
Horse trekking is the main activity, and treks can be arranged outside normal schedule times to suit school timetables. Students are able to experience the outdoors from horseback, developing confidence and responsibility while learning new skills. For smaller groups of 5–20 people, the programme can include a one to two hour trek followed by a picnic lunch.
Larger groups are also well catered for. Groups of 20–40 can be split into two, alternating between horse trekking and hiking or bush walks. Groups of 40–60 can rotate between shorter treks and additional activities such as lookout hikes, ball games, or frisbee. This flexibility ensures that all students can participate without long waiting times and that activities are suited to their numbers.
Alongside trekking, Karamu Trail Track offers a variety of other activities by arrangement. These include clay bird shooting, air rifle target shooting, bow and arrow shooting, sling shot paintball, horse painting, mud challenges, and cross-country hikes or runs. Groups can also add a picnic or barbecue, with a hot plate and firewood provided for cooking their own food.
A minimum deposit is required for bookings that include horse trekking, helping secure the time and resources needed for the group.
By combining horse trekking with a variety of outdoor challenges, Karamu Trail Track provides schools with opportunities to build teamwork, resilience, and enjoyment in the outdoors. The range of activities and flexible programming make it a practical choice for education outside the classroom.
