Profile
Scouts Aotearoa is New Zealand’s largest youth organisation, offering outdoor adventure and personal growth opportunities to more than 13,000 young people each year. With local groups spread throughout the country, Scouts welcomes members aged 5–26 and provides age-appropriate programmes designed to build confidence, resilience and lifelong friendships.
The movement is divided into five sections. Kea (5–8 years) introduces younger children to fun and friendship through simple outdoor activities. Cubs (8–11 years) enjoy new challenges and teamwork, while Scouts (11–14 years) take part in tramping, camping and water activities. Venturers (14–18 years) focus on leadership, outdoor expeditions and service, and Rovers (18–26 years) continue their journey with advanced challenges and community involvement. This progression means young people grow with the organisation, taking on new responsibilities as their skills develop.

Members take part in camps, bushcraft, survival skills, water safety and adventure sports, learning to work as a team while developing practical life skills. Many also participate in jamborees and large-scale events, connecting with Scouts nationally and internationally.
Scouts Aotearoa is open to all cultures and backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of New Zealand communities. Each group is run by trained volunteers who are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where tamariki and rangatahi can thrive. Fees vary between groups, and many offer a trial period for new members to experience Scouting before joining.
The organisation’s mission is to empower young people through fun, adventure and community engagement. By stepping outside their comfort zones and trying new experiences, Scouts develop confidence, leadership and resilience that carry into adult life. For families looking for a structured outdoor club with a strong tradition of service and adventure, Scouts Aotearoa is a
