Profile
Bushcraft & Survival Education
Based in Invercargill and across Southland, True in Nature delivers immersive, curriculum-aligned outdoor education programmes that reconnect children and young people with the natural world through survival skills and bushcraft.
Our programmes are delivered entirely outdoors in bush, forest and wild spaces, giving students the chance to learn directly from their environment. The natural setting encourages curiosity, collaboration and hands-on exploration in a way that traditional classrooms cannot.
At the heart of every experience is bushcraft — students learn through practical, survival-based challenges that build confidence, teamwork and resilience. Activities include shelter building, fire-starting and outdoor cooking, bush exploration and navigation, knife safety and tool use, crafting with natural materials, making hunting and gathering implements, survival first aid, bush medicine and more.
Each session fosters essential life skills such as communication, cooperation, persistence, creative problem-solving and teamwork, helping students grow in self-confidence and take these skills back into their learning and life beyond the bush.
We’ve supported schools through attendance and engagement initiatives, transition programmes for Years 6–8, targeted in-school STEAM units, and our inspiring Bush Leaders Programme, which empowers older students to mentor younger peers through the teaching of bushcraft, teamwork, and leadership skills. We can offer a variety of delivery formats based on your student’s needs.
Beyond school-based learning, we also offer holiday programmes giving tamariki and rangatahi the chance to explore, create and thrive in the outdoors during school breaks.
We also deliver well-being training and nature immersion experiences for the workplace and for professional development.
